Here it is:
IMHO The easiest money right now for anyone 14 or older is digging in to be an expert in @Amazon Alexa and @GoogleHomeworld and every compatible device.
Then I would offer to consult and configure the apartment and homes of everyone I know and everyone they know.
— Mark Cuban (@mcuban) January 25, 2018
Right now, Amazon Alexa and Google Home are the two biggest tech stories of the year. Converting your home to be smart and voice-activated, is one of the biggest wants of 2018. There’s a very big demand to have a service that will change your home into a smart home.
I think Mark Cuban nailed it with this idea because he found a niche that had no solution. If you can find something, usually a problem, with no solution, and then create that solution, you’ll be successful in any industry that you choose. Right now everybody wants to turn their home into a smart home, so there’s high demand, but there’s no low-cost all-in-one service in your neighborhood that will do this for them. They’ll need to figure it out themselves.
So, like Cuban said, become an expert in the thing that nobody knows about. Then, offer your services up to everybody in the neighborhood.
You’ll be surprised, many people will want the service, and pay big bucks for it. Remember, their time is valuable, and if there is a way for them to save that time, they probably will pay for it. All you really need to know is how to plug in a Google Home and connect it to their phone and other accounts. If you want to go further, offer smart home light and speaker installations.
This is how I’d go about making this into a business:
Create a solid business plan
I would offer a three-tier approach, with the first year being a simple single speaker installation. The second one would be multi-room speaker installation, and the third would be complete Smart Home transformation. I would then also offer add-ons to the plan, like light switches, lights, and outlets, and be paid per add-on.
Market Your Business
Once you know where you’re going to be selling, you need to Market your product. I think the best way to do this is to print out leaflets, and then leave them in the mailboxes around your neighborhood. This is a local business so market it as such.
Leave your phone number and email for contact. If you want to step it up a notch, you can make a very quick website, kind of like an e-commerce store, to add credibility to your brand.
Get Out There And Do It
Because there’s so much demand for this service, it’s a numbers game. The more flyers you put out there, the more business you’ll get, it’s as simple as that. Once you start getting phone calls and emails, begin scheduling appointments, probably after school or on the weekends. before your appointment, go out and buy the devices that you’ll need to install. then, during the scheduled time, show up at the house/apartment, and install the device. Then get paid. It is simple as that.
So what does Mark Cuban’s simple business idea teach us?
You should take away a few things from this idea. One, is very easy to make money out there, especially if there’s a problem that needs to be solved. Two, just put yourself out there. If you put yourself out there, there’s no way you can’t succeed. You just need to keep trying and trying, until you get there. Three, it’s not just a digital world. You’ll get a lot more sales if you go out there, marketing with brochures, rather than on Facebook. Understand that face-to-face interaction will sell a lot more in some cases.
Now get out there and try out this idea!
